8th German Libyan Business Forum (“New perspectives of the bilateral cooperation”, Frankfurt) Conference on the economic potential of the Libyan economy and the perspectives of the bilateral co-operation with Germany. The forum takes place under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour as well as Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi, Chairman of the International Gaddafi Foundation for Charity Associations. About 400 officials and business people from both countries are expected to meet in order to exchange ideas on co-operation, investment and trade.

7 th German Libyan Business Forum (Tripoli):
Conference on the business potential of the Libyan economy and the perspectives of the bilateral co-operation. The forum takes place under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour as well as the Secretary of the General People's Committee for Trade and Economics and the Director of the Directorate of Cooperation at the General People's Committee for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation. About 400 officials and business people from both countries are expected to meet in order to exchange ideas on co-operation, investment and trade.

Preparation and organisation of a delegation of Hessian companies to Libya. The group is headed by the Hessian Secretary of State Dieter Posch. Mr. Posch and the Libyan Secretary of Communication and Transport, Saleh M. Ferjani, sign a joint declaration inviting Hessian companies to participate in important infra-structure projects.

A Libyan delegation headed by Dr. Bashir Zinbil, Director of the Libyan Foreign Investment Board (LIFB), explains the details of the “Law No. 5 Encouraging Foreign Investment in Libya” in Berlin.
October 1999:
Business conference on the Maghreb countries in Frankfurt, jointly organized by Afrika-Verein and IHK Frankfurt.
September 1999:
The Afrika-Verein and some of its members have been invited to attend the „1 st Conference on Investment and Trade in Libya“.
June 1999:
4 th German Libyan Business Forum:
A Libyan business delegation headed by Assistant Secretary Dr. Ahmad el-Attrash, Secretariat of International Co-operation and Foreign Liaisons, visits Germany. It consists of numerous representatives of Libyan companies (Chairman of NOC, Libyan Iron and Steel Company, Libyan Investment Board, etc.). Four very successful “Libya Economic Days” have been organised in Stuttgart, Munich, Hamburg and Cologne. About 320 representatives of German companies attended the conferences.

Mai 1998:
3 rd German Libyan Business Forum:
A German business delegation headed by Jens-Ove Stier, first Chairman of the German Libyan Business Forum, visits Libya. During this visit, the Libyan German Business Forum is officially founded. Abdullah S. Elbaruni, Chairman of the Board, General Union of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture becomes Co-Chairman on the Libyan side. The delegation meets important representatives of the Libyan politics like the Secretary for Investment and Trade, and others.
April 1998:
2 nd German Libyan Business Forum:
An important Libyan business delegation headed by Assistant Secretary Dr. Ahmad el-Attrash, Secretariat of International Co-operation and Foreign Liaisons, delivers a presentation on the Libyan economy at the Africa Economic Day “The Maghreb Countries – Neighbours and Partners”.

The formation of the German Libyan Economic Forum takes place. Numerous German companies as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Libyan Ambassador to Germany are present.

A Libyan business delegation headed by Ali el-Ghariani of the Great Man-made River Authority visits Germany.
